These tarfiles (for Unix) or zipfiles (for Windows) contain stereo images from the Mars rovers "Opportunity" and "Spirit", processed so you can display them on a GeoWall (Sorry, but if you don't have a GeoWall, you probably won't be able to see these in 3D.) Because there are so many images, I have made a separate collection for each rover and each group of 50 "sols" (Mars days).

If you are not sure which sols to download, browse the JPL website for opportunity and spirit. When you find interesting pictures, take note of the sol (day) number, return here, and download the corresponding group of sols.

The sol indicates when the picture was taken, not necessarily when the picture was transmitted back to Earth. The rovers have enough memory onboard to store up to 40 days worth of transmissions. Sometimes a picture will be held in memory on Mars for several days before it arrives here. Sometimes a picture will be only partially transmitted, and you will see black squares or "tiles" missing. Those pictures may get updated later. What this all means is that even if you downloaded, say, r2s10-4x.tar.gz already, it may have changed since then.

Note: Some of the pictures taken by the rovers are not available in stereo. Two cameras are required to make a stereo picture, and if the rover only takes a picture with one camera, I cannot convert it for the GeoWall.

Download to an empty directory (folder) and untar (unzip). Then open the .gwd file. Note: make sure you have the latest version of WallView installed on your GeoWall for best results.

Rover 1 is Opportunity and rover 2 is Spirit. The large numbers indicate tarfile or zipfile size in bytes.
